Frequently asked questions
Organisation
Who are you?
We are a small team of local entrepreneurs/regular guests at camping de Holle Poarte who organize this annual event for the love of windsurfing. Thanks to an enthusiastic group of volunteers and sponsors, it becomes possible.
Why do you organize The Real Trip?
How is the registration price determined?
There are not that many exhibitors and for safety reasons we need many (life) boats each with two people crew. The fuel for this is expensive and infrastructure such as the big tent also costs something. For 200 participants, about 50 volunteers are needed, so one volunteer for every 4 participants.
We try to keep the prices as low as possible so that the event remains accessible to a large group. Thanks to exhibitors and sponsors, The Real Trip is just about cost-effective. That makes us want to continue organizing the event, but it makes growth and further professionalization quite difficult.
Register on time, it gives us an early signal of how big we need to scale and you save significantly on the registration costs.

Registration & payment
How do I sign up for The Real Trip?
Will I get my money back if there is no wind?
We hope for good wind, but of course we can't guarantee that. If the wind is not blowing, it is not the case that we do not incur any costs: almost all costs are incurred in advance and cannot be canceled last minute (think of the rental of the tent and audio/light equipment, booking of the bands, etc.). So we can't refund money, but of course we do our best to offer a nice alternative no-wind program.
What does participation cost and what is included?
The price is variable, the earlier you register, the lower the price. Including competition organization, no-wind activities and two party evenings with bands and a raffle. Accommodation is at your own expense.
Will I receive information in advance by e-mail (program, check-in)?
We try to share as much information as possible via the website and just before the start you will receive an extensive information email. During the event, we will show announcements on the big screen and communicate via the agenda on the site and the whatsapp communities.
Check-in & check-out
How and when does the check-in on location work?
We try to spread the crowds at check-in and that is why there is usually an early check-in option on Friday with a follow-up Saturday morning. You can show your confirmation with QR code, but we can also just find you by name. You will receive your bib number/vest and pay the deposit that you will receive back after returning your vest.
I paid a deposit — how and when will I get it back?
If you have paid in cash, you will also receive the deposit back in cash. If you paid the deposit with a debit card, the SumUp transaction will be reversed and you will receive the deposit back to the account from which you paid within 5 working days.
Competition & program
How will I be informed about the schedule and changes on the day?
During the event, we will show announcements on the big screen and communicate via the agenda on the site and the whatsapp communities.
What happens if there is too little or too much wind?
If there is too little or too much wind, we will organize an alternative program.
In which classes can I participate?
Via registration page on registration.therealtrip.nl you can see which classes we offer for your age category after entering your date of birth.
Accommodation
What accommodation options are there nearby?
Camping de Holle Poarte (camping or chalets), Hotel Standhuys, Beach Resort Makkum etc. Also check booking.com for alternatives in the area.
Please note that sometimes it seems that the campsite is not available if you only book Saturday/Sunday. Usually the Holle Poarte only offers packages from Friday or Saturday to Monday. Also try to share accommodation with your surf buddies, which saves costs and makes it possible for more participants to get an accommodation.
Do I have to arrange accommodation myself or does it go through the organization?
Results & photos
Where and when can I find the results?
The results will be published on https://therealtrip.nl.
Where can I find the photos, and how do I find my own match photos?
On https://therealtrip.nl/media we show the photos taken and you can find yourself by starting number or by sailing number. Give our photographers some time, because sorting out and post-processing is a time-consuming job. So come back regularly, the site will be supplemented with new material drop by drop.
